Adopt a Quaker in Toronto & the GTA

Chatty little architects with huge vocabularies.

Quaker parrots (monk parakeets) are legendary talkers for their size — many rival African Greys in clarity — and they're the only parrot that builds stick nests in the wild, which explains their hilarious urge to weave things into their cage bars. They're hardy, clever, and bond strongly. Quakers are legal to keep in Ontario (they're banned in some U.S. states, not here).

Quaker adoption FAQs

Are Quaker parrots legal in Ontario?

Yes — fully legal in Ontario and most of Canada. The bans you may have read about are in certain U.S. states worried about wild colonies.

How well do Quakers talk?

Exceptionally for a small parrot — clear words, phrases, and context. Many adopters are shocked the first time their Quaker greets a visitor by name.

Why does my Quaker weave things into its cage?

Pure instinct — wild Quakers build huge communal stick nests. Give yours weaving-friendly toys (palm strips, untreated wicker) and it will happily 'renovate' for hours.

How do I adopt a quaker through Bird Sitting Toronto?

Browse the available quakers above and apply directly on the bird's page — you'll fill in a short application and chat with our AI screening assistant, then the BST team reviews every application personally. If none are listed today, the waitlist gets first notice when one arrives.
