Adopt a Finch in Canada

Tiny, lively flock birds that are happiest in pairs or small groups.

Finches — zebra finches, society finches, Gouldians and their cousins — are tiny, busy songbirds that live for the company of their own kind. They are hands-off birds: a finch would much rather hop and flutter around a roomy flight cage with its flockmates than sit on a finger, which makes them a lovely, low-key choice for people who enjoy watching birds. Because a finch must never be kept alone, they are usually rehomed as a pair or a small group, and they should be adopted that way too.

Finch adoption FAQs

Can I adopt just one finch?

Please don't. Finches are flock birds and a single finch is a lonely, stressed bird. Adopt at least a pair — most finches are listed as pairs or groups for exactly that reason.

What kind of cage does a finch need?

Width matters more than height: finches fly back and forth rather than climbing, so choose the longest flight cage you can fit, with bar spacing narrow enough that they can't slip through.

Are finches good with children?

Finches are a lovely family bird to watch, but they are not pets to pick up. They stress easily when chased or grabbed, so they suit families who are happy to enjoy them from outside the cage.

How do I adopt a finch through Bird Sitting Toronto?

Browse the available finches above and apply directly on the bird's page — you'll fill in a short application and chat with our AI screening assistant. The bird's owner (or BST, for birds in our care) reads the applications, chooses the new home and contacts you directly. If none are listed today, the waitlist gets first notice when one arrives.

Need to rehome your finch?

Listing is free, every applicant is screened before you see them, and reading their full applications — contact details, complete answers and the AI interview — is free too.
