Adopt a Pigeon in Canada
Calm, clever and loyal — domestic pigeons make surprisingly sweet pets.
Domestic pigeons — homers, rollers, tipplers, king pigeons and the fancy breeds — are calm, intelligent birds that bond closely with the people who care for them. They coo rather than scream, and many enjoy being held once they trust you. Pigeons need more room than their quiet nature suggests: a large indoor enclosure or a safe, predator-proof loft, daily time to stretch their wings, a pigeon seed mix, and fresh water for drinking and bathing. A domestic pigeon cannot fend for itself on the street, so a pet pigeon always needs a new home, never an open door.

Do pigeons make good pets?
Yes, for the right home. Pigeons are gentle, rarely bite and often enjoy being handled. They need space and daily attention, and like any bird they do best on a steady routine.
Can I let a pet pigeon fly outside?
Only a homing pigeon trained to return to a loft it knows should ever fly free. A fancy or pet pigeon let outside is usually lost, and domestic pigeons don't cope on their own.
Is a dove the same as a pigeon?
They belong to the same bird family, and the white 'doves' released at events are often white homing pigeons. Pet doves and pigeons differ in size and needs, so check the listing for the breed.
How do I adopt a pigeon through Bird Sitting Toronto?
