About Babalu

Meet Babalu, a cheerful blue budgie looking for his forever home! Babalu is an entertaining, active boy who fills the room with happy chatter and can even say "What are you doing?" in his adorable helium voice. He loves a steady daily routine, listening to morning and bedtime songs, and playing with his favorite disco-ball toys. His ideal match is a calm, patient home—ideally with an experienced budgie owner and possibly a gentle budgie companion—that can maintain his daily schedule and help transition his diet. Babalu comes with his cage, cover, and accessories. A small rehoming fee applies, and all interested adopters must fill out an application on the Bird Sitting Toronto rehoming portal before meeting him.

Temperament

Babalu is a busy, happy, and cheerful little bird who keeps himself entertained all day. He can be quite chatty and loud when vocalizing, and he can even say "What are you doing?" in a cute, high helium voice. He is fascinated by shiny things; when the sun is out, he loves watching the light dance around from the little disco balls in his cage and will jingle them himself. He also loves shredding a soda cracker for fun and thoroughly enjoys being sung to in the morning and at bedtime.

Care Requirements

Needs a predictable daily schedule: uncovered between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM with fresh food and water, and covered early for bedtime around 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM. Diet currently consists of quality seed (such as TopCrop Millworks or Versele-Laga Prestige), millet sprays, and cuttlebone, with a gradual introduction to pellets and fresh veggies needed. Needs shiny toys, bells/disco balls, and shreddable materials for mental enrichment. Not a fan of traditional baths but will dip in a water bowl. Comes with his cage, cage cover, and accessories.

Medical History

Babalu appears healthy and active, but has a behavioural feather-plucking habit on his chest that began a few years ago during a stressful period involving early dark wake-ups and a busy shared room. This has been considered behavioural rather than medical, but a baseline avian vet check-up is recommended.

Special Needs

Requires a calm environment and a predictable, steady day/night routine to help manage his feather plucking. He will need a patient adopter willing to slowly transition his diet from seeds to pellets and fresh vegetables. While he did not get along with a previous cage-mate, his current family believes he could do well with a gentle, friendly companion budgie.
